Commissioner Matthews seconded <br />the motion, and upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Adams, Garner, Hincks, Matthews, Paschal, Reives and Sauls <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board heard a presentation on the proposed expansion of high level <br />radioactive waste storage facilities at Carolina Power & Light's Shearon Harris Nuclear <br />Power Plant. Emergency Management Director Warren Lee introduced John Caves, <br />Manager of Nuclear Regulatory Affairs for Carolina Power & Light who described the <br />proposed plan and answered questions from Board members. <br />The Board considered recommendations from the Environmental Affairs Board. <br />Assistant Community Development Director Trevis Averett told the Board that the <br />Environmental Affairs Board opposed the proposal by the Technical Committee of the <br />Low-Level Radioactive Waste Management Authority concerning the Decay in Storage <br />(DIS) concept for the disposal of low-level radioactive wastes. Mr. Averett also asked <br />the Board to consider a resolution from the Environmental Affairs Board requesting that <br />more information be provided to the public and that public hearings be held concerning <br />the proposed expansion of high level radioactive waste storage facilities at the Shearon <br />Harris Nuclear Power Plant..
