BUNK 17 nuE S619 <br />SEVERE WEATHER AWARENESS WEEK <br />1999 <br />WHEREAS, dangerous and destructive weather, such as tornadoes, <br />thunderstorms, lightning, hail, winds and flash floods, killed or injured hundreds of <br />people in the Southeast last year; and <br />WHEREAS, these weather events annually cause millions of dollars in damage <br />to crops and buildings; and <br />WHEREAS, the safety of its citizens is the foremost concern of govermneat at <br />all levels in every State; and <br />WHEREAS, weather occurrences are not limited to geographic or political <br />boundaries; and <br />WHEREAS, the States of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, South <br />Carolina and Tennessee desire to work with the state of North Carolina in a joint <br />public safety educational effort intended to safeguard our citizens; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE LEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS, <br />does hereby proclaim the week of February 21-27, 1999, as "Severe Weather <br />Awareness Week" in Lee County, and urges all citizens to participate in its <br />observance by learning what they can do to protect themselves, their loved ones and <br />their property when severe weather threatens our State. <br />Upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Adams, Garner, Hincks, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, and Sauls <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board considered amendments to the Lee County Economic Development <br />Incentive Policy. Economic Development Director Bob Heuts told the Board that the <br />Executive Committee of the Economic Development Corporation is asking the Board <br />to amend the local incentive policy. Mr. Heuts outlined the proposed changes and <br />answered questions from Board members. After some discussion, Commissioner <br />Reives moved to approve amendments to the Economic Development Incentive <br />Policy, as presented. Upon a vote, the results were as follows; <br />Aye: Adams, Garner, Hincks, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, and Sauls <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />6 <br />
