BOOK 17 PAGE 560 005 <br />Commissioner Reives moved to approve a proposed calendar for a financing <br />agreement for construction of the Agribusiness Center. Upon a vote, the results were <br />as follows: <br />Aye: Adams, Garner, Hincks, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, and Sauls <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board considered the establishment of a Census 2000 Count Committee. <br />Community Development Director Reggie Scales discussed with the Board the need <br />for a committee to implement a locally based promotion to publicize the importance <br />of the 2000 Census. Mr. Scales recommended that one committee consisting of twelve <br />members be appointed by Lee County, the City of Sanford, and the Town of <br />Broadway. After some discussion, Commissioner Paschal moved to approve Mr. <br />Scale's recommendation. Upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Adams, Garner, Hincks, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, and Sauls <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board discussed selected Capital Improvement Projects that pertain to Lee <br />County. Economic Development Director Bob Heats updated the Board on a current <br />master plan study that is being completed for expansion of the existing industrial park. <br />If the plan is approved, the expansion project will be implemented in different phases <br />in the Capital Improvement Projects budget. Commissioner Reives asked the Board <br />to study incentives for business expansion before the budget process gets underway. <br />Commissioner Reives also discussed with the Board the need for more space at the <br />local Lee-Harnett Mental Health facility. He asked the Board to look at this matter in <br />the upcoming budget process. <br />The Board considered a proclamation for Severe Weather Awareness Week in <br />Lee County. Emergency Management Director Warren Lee gave the Board some facts <br />concerning severe weather in Lee County during 1998. He asked that Board members <br />encourage citizens to stay alert to the approach of severe weather and to take <br />responsibility for their personal safety. He also told the Board that tornado drills will <br />be held sometime during the day on February 24, 1999, in all Lee County Schools and <br />the County Government buildings.
