Eou V PICE 625 002 <br />• Proclamation to declare April 17-30, 1999 as "Litter Sweep" in Lee County <br />• Resolution to declare the week of April 18-24, 1999 as "National <br />Immunization Week" in Lee County <br />• Proclamation to declare the week of April 18-24, 1999 as "County <br />Government Week" <br />• Franchise agreement between Lee County and the Sanford-Lee County <br />Volunteer Rescue Squad, Inc. <br />• Purchase of LaserJet printer for the Cooperative Extension Office from PC <br />Age at a cost of $2,674 <br />• Budget amendment 04/05/99/17 (copy attached) <br />Upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Adams, Garner, Hincks, Matthews, Paschal, and Sauls <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />Commissioner Paschal told the Board that he had met with Larry Kelly, Chief of <br />the Deep River Volunteer Fire Department concerning a one-day aircraft fire training <br />class. The training will be conducted for this department since they will be the first <br />responders to the new airport should a plane crash. <br />Mr. Joe Clendenin from the North Carolina Department of Transportation <br />discussed with the Board improvements to the secondary road system near the new <br />airport, including ROD Sullivan and Farrell Roads. Mr. Clendenin told the Board that <br />some improvements have recently been completed on Farrell Road. He discussed <br />various sources of money that are available for road construction and gave two <br />suggestions for improvements to ROD Sullivan Road. After some discussion, the <br />Board agreed to use money from the road construction fund to strengthen and repave <br />ROD Sullivan Road, and use money from the secondary road construction fund for <br />paving some of the thirty-five plus miles of unpaved roads in Lee County. <br />Commissioner Matthews discussed with DOT representatives the need for <br />caution lights for St. Andrews and Lemon Spring Roads, and Greenwood and Edwards <br />Roads intersections. Mr. Clendenin told the Board that DOT has been in the process of <br />obtaining right-of-ways in the St. Andrews area and turn lanes will be constructed in the <br />near future at the St. Andrews and Lemon Springs roads intersection. He told the Board <br />that he would request another traffic study for the Greenwood and Edwards Roads <br />intersection. <br />The Board considered a request for the County to maintain plantings within <br />certain right-of-ways along highway US #1 north. County Manager William Cowan <br />told the Board that he had received a letter from the Chamber of Commerce asking the <br />County to maintain areas along US 91 at the Deep River Road, Farrell Road and Colon <br />2 <br />
