BOOK 17 PIGF 644 ® 0 07 <br />Health Department Director Mike Hanes discussed various Health Department <br />matters relating to Inspectors and Soil Scientists. Mr. Hanes told the Board that lie is <br />currently gathering data concerning positions and salaries for his department that will <br />be presented to his Health Board at their next meeting in May. Commissioner Garner <br />left the meeting during this discussion. <br />County Manager William Cowan discussed with the Board eleven new positions <br />that have been asked for by departments in the upcoming budget. <br />MIS Director Lesa Price and Public Works Director Kenny Cole discussed with <br />the Board Y2K compliance issues that they are working on and various software <br />packages that are being installed. They told the Board that approximately 510,000- <br />$15,000 will be needed in the Y2K budget for FY 1999-2000. <br />Social Services Director Brenda Potts discussed with the Board fiscal policy <br />issues for end-of-year forecast for her department and why certain monies will not be <br />collected this year. <br />County Manager William Cowan told the Board that he would not be <br />recommending any additional money above the amount agreed upon in the joint <br />agreement between the Lee County Commissioners and the Lee County Board of <br />Education. Board of Education member Joe Brewer was in attendance and told the <br />Board that the schools would need more money than what the County Manager is going <br />to recommend. <br />Mr. Cowan told the Board that Central Carolina Community College is asking <br />for additional money for "growth," which includes improvements to the Civic Center, <br />new classrooms, and money to be placed in reserve for the purchase of additional land <br />for future expansion. <br />County Manager William Cowan and Finance Director Lisa Minter went over <br />the 1998-1999 budget projections for all departments. <br />Chairman Hincks adjourned the meeting to the Lee County Courthouse for <br />advertised public hearings with the Planning Board. <br />The meeting resumed at 7:00 p.m. at the Lee County Courthouse, 1408 S. <br />Horner Blvd., Sanford, with all Commissioners present. Chairman Hincks called the <br />meeting to order and opened the public hearings which had been advertised for this date <br />and time. <br />Don Kovasckitz, 911 Coordinator told the Board that a road naming petition to <br />name Variety Lane, a new private Lane off Steel Bridge Road, needed to be <br />considered. <br />7 <br />
