008
accK 17 vacE 8'.~
Commissioner Robert T. Reives joined the meeting and participated in the further
deliberations of the Board.
Upon the arrival of Commissioner Reives, Chairman Hincks informed him of the
Board's consideration and subsequent vote on a tax appeal of a penalty on business
personal property for National Textiles. It was noted that Toney Boyd, General
Accounting Manager representing National Textiles, had left the meeting. After
discussion, Commissioner Garner moved to table the matter until the September 7, 1999
Board meeting at which time Mr. Boyd could be present. Upon a vote, the results were
as follows:
Aye: Adams, Garner, I-lincks, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, and Sauls
Nay: None
The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously.
The Board considered a Matching Grants Policy for Senior Services.
Commissioner Reives informed the Board that the County already had a Matching Grants
Policy which was adopted October 1, 1990, a copy of which was included in the agenda.
Lee County Senior Services would like to raise money to purchase a tread mill and would
like the County to match the donated funds for the purchase of a second tread mill.
Commissioner Garner moved to match the funds raised by Senior Services for the
purpose of purchasing a second treadmill. Upon a vote, the results were as follows:
Aye: Adams, Garner, Hincks, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, and Sauls
Nay: None
The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously.
The Board considered a memorandum from Reggie Scales, Sanford/Lee County
Community Development Director, requesting that the Board appoint two regular
members and one alternate member to the Sanford Board of Adjustment from the Sanford
Extraterritorial Jurisdiction. This is required due to action taken by the Sanford City
Council on July 20, 1999 which split the Sanford Planning Board/Board of Adjustment
into separate entities. The existing members of the Planning Board/Board of Adjustment
remained as the Planning Board with the sole responsibility of providing planning and
long range studies for the City. To ensure fair representation, Commissioner Hincks
asked Mr. Scales to furnish the Board with a map that indicates where existing members
currently live prior to the September 7, 1999 Board meeting, said maps are to be sent
directly to Board members by the Department of Community Development.
Commissioner Adams asked the Board to consider acquiring identifying apparel
of some sort for tax assessors to wear during the appraisal process. This is for their safety
as well as property owners.
8
