Health Director <br />Mike Hanes asked the Board to consider 1) approval to request monies from the Centers <br />for Disease Control to develop a model program for community assessment, 2) a grant <br />application to the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust for dental services for Medicaid <br />eligible children, and 3) a letter of support for the Chatham-Lee County Dental Health <br />Planning Committee to pursue funding for the establishment of a dental clinic. After <br />some discussion, Commissioner Garner moved to approve the three items listed above. <br />Upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Adams, Garner, Hineks, Matthews, Paschal, and Sauls <br />Nay: None <br />Absent: Reives <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board heard a report from Planner Ron Satterfield concerning proposed <br />revisions to the Lee County Water Supply Watershed Map. He told the Board that a <br />public hearing had been advertised for September 20, 1999 to remove the watershed <br />protection boundary in the areas north of Chris Cole Road and east of South Plank Road, <br />areas east of Hawkins Avenue to the Lee County Industrial Park, and areas north of Deep <br />River Road to Farrell Road. He told the Board that the lots removed from the watershed <br />protection area would no longer be required to meet the development standards <br />prescribed in the current Lee County Watershed Ordinance. No action was taken on the <br />matter. <br />The Board considered funding for the Beaver Management Assistance Program. <br />Cooperative Extension Director John Hall told the Board that the General Assembly has <br />once again authorized the Beaver Management Assistance Program (BMAP) for October <br />1, 1999 - September 30, 2001. If the County wishes to participate again this year, they <br />must pay $4,000 by October 15, 1999. Mr. Hall told the Board that according to a report <br />from Nick Walters, who is responsible for the BMAP in Lee County, the program has <br />been successful in helping reduce the damage resulting from the excess beaver <br />population. Mr. Walters and Mr. Hall recommended that Lee County participate in the <br />program again this year in order to bring the beaver population under control. After some <br />discussion, Commissioner Gamer moved for Lee County to participate in the Beaver <br />Management Assistance Program for the upcoming year.
