He read aloud the resolution and presented it to <br />Parks and Recreation Director John Payne, who accepted the resolution on behalf of the <br />team. Upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Adams, Garner, Hincks, Matthews, Paschal, and Sauls <br />Nay: None <br />Absent: Reives <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board considered the one-mile extraterritorial jurisdiction that the City of <br />Sanford currently regulates. Chairman Hincks moved for County Attorney K. R. Hoyle <br />to draft a letter to the City of Sanford asking that they consider abolishing the current <br />one-mile extraterritorial jurisdiction, to be effective upon the City Council's approval. <br />Upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Adams, Hincks, Matthews, Paschal, and SaUls <br />Nay: Garner <br />Absent Reives <br />The Chairman ruled that the motion had been adopted by a five to one vote. <br />Commissioner Garner stated he voted against the motion because he did not have <br />enough information on the matter and he wanted to know how the residents in this area <br />felt. <br />The Board heard a presentation from Judy Kincaid of Triangle J Council of <br />Governments concerning a "Future Search" conference to be held in February, 2000, and <br />a resolution which would commit the County to provide representatives to participate in <br />the program. Commissioner Matthews read aloud the following resolution: <br />RESOLUTION COMMITTING <br />LEE COUNTY <br />STAFF AND ELECTED OFFICIALS TO PARTICIPATE IN A <br />REGIONAL "FUTURE SEARCH" ON <br />SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT <br />WHEREAS, increased regional coordination regarding solid waste management is <br />likely to be beneficial to individual local governments in the Triangle area; and <br />WHEREAS, the Future Search process is a potentially useful approach to viewing <br />a whole system and its trends, identifying places to effectively move the system toward a <br />common goal, and generating commitment to do so; and <br />3 <br />
