A tJ <br />0 BuCX 17 PiGP H'71 <br />RESOLUTION <br />BROADWAY ROAD IMPROVEMENTS <br />WHEREAS, the Broadway Town Board of Commissioners believe the first concern of <br />all elected officials must be the safety of all citizens; and <br />WHEREAS, the Broadway Town Board of Commissioners believe the highways <br />citizens travel must be safe; and <br />WHEREAS, the safety of a highway is dependent on the ability of the highway to <br />accommodate the traffic demands and upon proper maintenance; and <br />WHEREAS, Broadway Road connects the only two municipalities in Lee County and is <br />one of the busiest highways in the area; and <br />WHEREAS, Broadway Road does not allow safe passing nor proper traffic flow and is <br />poorly maintained; and <br />WHEREAS, Broadway Road is the main corridor for east/west traffic to Central <br />Carolina Community College, Lee Senior High School, East Lee Middle School, and Broadway <br />Elementary School; and <br />WHEREAS, there are several large businesses and industries located along Broadway <br />Road, including Cory, Arden, Redman Homes, J. T. Davenport Distributors, along with several <br />small businesses; and <br />WHEREAS, there now exist an unsafe mix of passenger cars, trucks,tand school bus <br />traffic on a highway not designated to accommodate the current volume nor variety of traffic; and <br />WHEREAS, the Broadway Town Board of Commissioners believe there is no highway <br />in Lee County or the surrounding area that is more in need of improvements when traffic volume <br />and the condition of the highway are both considered. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Broadway Town Board of <br />Commissioners respectfully request that the Department of Transportation <br />• Reevaluate the safety and maintenance of Broadway Road. <br />• Reconsider the status of the plan to improve this road and move said plan ahead with <br />all due haste. <br />Adopted and supported by the Lee County Board of Commissioners the 20°i day of September, <br />1999. <br />Herbert A.
