0016 <br />BOOK 17 PAGE 950 <br />Chairman Hincks appointed himself and Commissioners Hubert Garner and Ed Paschal <br />to serve on the committee. <br />Commissioner Garner asked that the Board endorse a letter of support for LEE <br />CAN. Commissioner Garner was asked to get a letter of endorsement for the Board to <br />consider at a future meeting. No action was taken on the matter. <br />Commissioner Garner asked that the Board consider waiving gym fees for the <br />newly created Provisions Academy School. After some discussion, Commissioner <br />Garner was asked to get something in writing from the school for Commissioner Paschal <br />to submit to the Parks and Recreation Commission for consideration at their next <br />meeting. No action was taken on the matter. <br />Commissioner Bert Matthews told the Board that she would like to recognize and <br />congratulate a Child Support employee with the Department of Social Services for her <br />outstanding work in collecting child support. Social Services Director Brenda Potts <br />introduced Child Support Agent Alecia Brown and gave the Board an update on Ms. <br />Brown's collections for the past several weeks. Chairman Hincks asked Ms. Brown if <br />she felt it was important for a husband and wife to have good marital relations. After Ms. <br />Brown replied "Yes, I do," Commissioner Adams praised Ms. Brown for her work. Mr. <br />Adams then walked to the podium, got down on bendcd knee and asked Ms. Brown to <br />marry him. Ms. Brown responded "Yes," as they embraced. Commissioner Reives <br />stated, "1'm going to move that we approve this engagement." The motion passed <br />unanimously. <br />The Board considered an appointment to the Rest Home and Nursing Home <br />Advisory Committee. Mr. Barry Souders had submitted a letter of resignation from the <br />Committee due to returning to his former position with the Employment Security <br />Commission. Mrs. Barbara Souders had been recommended by members of the Rest <br />Home and Nursing Home Committee to fill the unexpired tenn. Commissioner Reives <br />moved to accept the nomination of Barbara Souders to this Committee. Upon a vote, the <br />results were as follows: <br />Aye: Adams, Garner, Hincks, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, and Sauls <br />Nay: None <br />The Chainman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />Commissioner Matthews asked County Manager William Cowan to contact the <br />North Carolina Department of Transportation and find out the status on the caution light <br />that was to be installed at the intersection of Lemon Springs Road and St. Andrews <br />Church Road. <br />There being no further business to come before the Board, Commissioner Adams <br />moved to adjourn the meeting.
