} <br />01 [i <br />~ccx 17 vacs 987 <br />SEVERE WEATHER AWARENESS WEEK <br />2000 <br />BY THE LEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />A PROCLAMATION <br />WHEREAS, North Carolina's geography permits its citizens to enjoy a wide <br />variety of climates and recreational activities; and <br />WHEREAS, severe weather, such as tornadoes, thunderstorms, lightning, hail, <br />high winds, flash floods, and winter storms can isolate communities and cut off <br />emergency response and relief efforts; and <br />WHEREAS, severe weather kills or injures hundreds of people in the southeast <br />each year; and <br />WHEREAS, these weather events annually cause millions of dollars in damage to <br />crops and buildings; and <br />WHEREAS, the foremost concern of all government is the safety of its citizens; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, weather occurrences are not limited to geographic or political <br />boundaries; and <br />WHEREAS, the states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina <br />and Tennessee desire to again work with the state of North Carolina in a joint public <br />safely educational effort intended to safeguard our citizens; <br />NOW, THEREFORE THE LEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />does hereby proclaim the week of February 20-26, 2000, as "SEVERE WEATHER <br />AWARENESS WEEK" in Lee County, and urges all citizens to participate in its <br />observance by learning what they can do to protect themselves, their loved ones and their <br />property when severe weather threatens our County. <br />This the 7`h day of February 2000. <br />Herbert A.
