They have measured approximately <br />2900 feet of Brickyard Road that would require rebuilding, with an estimated cost of <br />$100,000 to bring the road up to a standard that would withstand the heavy loads. This <br />cost does not include funding that would be expected from Cherokee Brick Company, <br />such as the cost of installing heavy equipment crossovers that would allow heavy <br />equipment to move material from the mining area to the brick plant. This also does not <br />include the cost of installing paved entrances to the plant that would insure that no mud <br />is tracked onto the roadway and that the entrances can withstand the loads of the trucks <br />using them. Mr. J. A. Tarpey of 159 Memory Lane spoke in opposition to the road <br />closing. After much discussion, Commissioner Reives moved that the North Carolina <br />Department of Transportation abandon of a portion of State Road 1419 (Brickyard <br />Road), for Cherokee Sanford Brick to work with the families that live at the end of this <br />road to allow them emergency access, and for Cherokee Sanford Brick to report back to <br />the Board of Commissioners with solutions. Upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Adams, Garner, Hincks, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, and Sauls <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board considered a recommendation fi-om the Planning Board. Planner <br />Althea Thompson told the Board that the Planning Board recommended approval of the <br />Preliminary Plat for Poplar Springs Estates Subdivision, which is located on Poplar <br />Springs Church Road. Commissioner Paschal moved to accept the recommendation of <br />the Planning Board. Upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Adams, Garner, Hincks, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, and SaUls <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board considered a resolution to establish a policy for the listing of <br />undivided interest in real properly owned by tenants in common in Lee County. Tax <br />Administrator Roger Kelley told the Board that he has encountered a number of <br />problems concerning parcels listed with undivided interest. He stated that Lee County is <br />only one of two counties in North Carolina that still list and bill undivided interests. He <br />told the Board that the Department of Revenue recommended that Lee County list <br />parcels in the name of all owners. Mr. Kelley asked that the Board approve a resolution <br />to establish a policy that would assist with this problem.
