Box 18 PACE 44
0 003
The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously.
Commissioner Garner moved that some type of organ donor resolution in support
of National Organ and Tissue Donor Week be prepared by County Attorney K. R. Hoyle
for presentation at the next meeting. Upon a vote, the results were as follows:
Aye: Adams, Garner, Hincks, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, and Sauls
Nay: None
The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously.
The Board considered a resolution opposing the location of a new ABC Retail
Store in Tramway. Commissioner Garner moved to approve the following resolution:
WHEREAS, the Sanford City Alcohol Beverage Control Board has approved the
location of an ABC Retail Outlet Store in Tramway Crossings Shopping Center; and,
WHEREAS, this proposed site is located within a "satellite" annexed location
governed by the zoning laws of the City of Sanford; and
WHEREAS, the majority of the local Tramway residents oppose this location in
spite of the desire of the Sanford Alcohol Beverage Control Board to place the store in
this location.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Lee County Board of
Commissioners opposes the location and operation of an ABC Retail Sales Outlet Store
in Tramway Crossing Shopping Center.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be communicated forthwith
to the Sanford ABC Board and the State ABC Commission.
Commissioner Reives asked if any representative from the Sanford ABC Board or the
Sanford City Council was present. He stated, "This is not our domain. I think this is
most unusual for us to take a position on the city's position."
After much discussion, Commissioner Garner amended his motion to include sending the
Sanford City Council a copy of the resolution. Upon a vote, the results were as follows:
Aye: Adams, Garner, Hincks, Matthews, Paschal, and Sauls
Nay: Reives
The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted by a six to one vote.
Commissioner Reives stated that he opposed the resolution because of the manner in
which it was introduced to the Board.
3
