0 VON IS P'GF 54 <br />Aye: Adams, Gainer, Hineks, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, and SanIS <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board considered matters relating to the Parks and Recreation Department. <br />Recreation Director John Payne asked that the Board consider increasing fees for rentals <br />and labor required for certain rentals, such as pool staff and Ingram School building <br />supervision. He told the Board that no increase in fees was being recommended for <br />programs or field and gym rentals. He also asked that the Board consider a change to the <br />ordinance affecting camping at San-Lee Park. He requested that not more than two (2) <br />RV campsites be made available for reservations for a period of not more than thirty (30) <br />days. After some discussion, Commissioner Garner moved to approve the requested <br />increase for rentals and labor and changes to the ordinance for two RV campsites at San <br />Lee Park. Upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Adams, Garner, Hincks, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, and Sauls <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />Commissioner Adams moved to approve the following proclamation: <br />WHEREAS, Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United States; <br />and, <br />WHEREAS, one in every four deaths in the Unites States is from Cancer; and <br />WHEREAS, about 89 million Americans now living will eventually develop <br />cancer and 3.1 million North Carolinians now living will develop cancer during their <br />lifetime; and <br />WHEREAS, 220 new cases of cancer are estimated to occur in Lee County this <br />year and approximately 110 Lee County citizens could die from cancer this year; and <br />WHEREAS, the American Cancer society is dedicated to eliminating cancer as a <br />major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from <br />this disease through research, education, advocacy, and service; and, <br />WHEREAS, Lee County will hold its 6°i annual Relay For Life involving over <br />1,000 volunteers and over 100 survivors the weekend of June 2nd and 3rd, 2000. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, we the Lee County Board of Commissioners do hereby <br />proclaim Lee County as "A Relay For Life Community" and also hereby proclaim June <br />2nd and 3rd as "Relay For Life Weekend" and urge all citizens to participate in this <br />effort to eliminate cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives <br />00) <br />5 <br />
