BOCK IS PAGE 51 On? • Resolution opposing the extension or expansion of the Internet Tax Moratorium (copy attached) • Budget Amendment N 05/02/00/17 (copy attached) Upon a vote, the results were as follows: Aye: Adams, Garner, Hincks, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, and Sauls Nay: None The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. The Board considered a resolution for "National Oman and Tissue Donor Week". Commissioner Garner moved to approve the following resolution, which he read and presented to Mr. Charles Jeffries for his voluntary public service as an advocate for the organ and tissue donor program: WHEREAS, April 16-23 is National Organ and Tissue Donor Awareness Week; and WHEREAS, Carolina Donor Services, an organization that works with donor families, hospitals, and transplant recipients in North Carolina is marking the occasion with programs to make people aware of the importance of donating; and WHEREAS, Lee County resident Charles Jeffries, CPA, has made a significant contribution of his time and talent in speaking on behalf of organ donation on a national basis; and WHEREAS, the need for organ transplants is great with estimates of more than 2,000 people in North Carolina and more than 70,000 people in the Unites States being in need oftransplants. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners for Lee County, North Carolina, that it encourages its citizens to consider becoming organ and tissue donors and urges all citizens to participate in the events scheduled for the week and to become aware of the importance of donating organs or tissue; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that it commends Charles Jeffries for his voluntary public service as an advocate for this beneficial program.
