BOCK IS PAGE 51 <br />On? <br />• Resolution opposing the extension or expansion of the Internet Tax <br />Moratorium (copy attached) <br />• Budget Amendment N 05/02/00/17 (copy attached) <br />Upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Adams, Garner, Hincks, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, and Sauls <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board considered a resolution for "National Oman and Tissue Donor <br />Week". Commissioner Garner moved to approve the following resolution, which he read <br />and presented to Mr. Charles Jeffries for his voluntary public service as an advocate for <br />the organ and tissue donor program: <br />WHEREAS, April 16-23 is National Organ and Tissue Donor Awareness <br />Week; and <br />WHEREAS, Carolina Donor Services, an organization that works with donor <br />families, hospitals, and transplant recipients in North Carolina is marking the occasion <br />with programs to make people aware of the importance of donating; and <br />WHEREAS, Lee County resident Charles Jeffries, CPA, has made a significant <br />contribution of his time and talent in speaking on behalf of organ donation on a national <br />basis; and <br />WHEREAS, the need for organ transplants is great with estimates of more than <br />2,000 people in North Carolina and more than 70,000 people in the Unites States being in <br />need oftransplants. <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of <br />Commissioners for Lee County, North Carolina, that it encourages its citizens to consider <br />becoming organ and tissue donors and urges all citizens to participate in the events <br />scheduled for the week and to become aware of the importance of donating organs or <br />tissue; and <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that it commends Charles Jeffries for his <br />voluntary public service as an advocate for this beneficial program. <br />Upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Adams, Garner, Hincks, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, and Sauls <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />2 <br />
