005 <br />BOOK iS FACE Gil <br />Aye: Adams, Garner, Hincks, Matthews, Paschal, and Reives <br />Nay: None <br />Absent: Sauls <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board considered a resolution from the Town of Broadway requesting that <br />the name of Broadway Road be changed. Commissioner Garner moved to approve the <br />following: <br />RESOLUTION REQUESTING <br />THE RENANIING OF STATE ROAD NO. 1579 (BROADWAY ROAD) <br />TO 421 BUSINESS <br />WHEREAS, Secondary Road No. 1579, also known as Broadway Road, also known as <br />Main Street, connects the two municipalities in Lee County and is one of the busiest <br />highways in the area; and <br />WHEREAS, Broadway Road is the main corridor for easUwest traffic to Central <br />Carolina Community College, Lee Senior High School, East Lee Middle School, <br />Broadway Elementary School, and the Dennis Wicker Civic Center; and <br />WHEREAS, there are several large businesses and industries located along Broadway <br />Road including Coty, Arden, Redman Homes, and J. T. Davenport Distributors, along <br />with numerous small businesses in the Town of Broadway; and <br />WHEREAS, the Town of Broadway Board of Commissioners, County of Lee Board of <br />Commissioners, and the Sanford City Council have requested that the North Carolina <br />Department of Transportation address the needs of this road because of present <br />conditions and high traffic volume and place it first in priority. <br />WHEREAS, the Town of Broadway Board of Commissioners recently adopted a <br />Resolution requesting that the North Carolina Department of Transportation restudy the <br />snow clearing policy to allow for more timely assistance in clearing this main artery to <br />provide access to a township, fire department, physician services, medical suppliers, <br />groceries, petroleum products, schools, and other essential services and products for the <br />citizens. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Lee County Board of <br />Commissioners respectfully requests that the North Carolina Department of <br />Transportation Division of Highways rename State Road 1579 to Highway 421 <br />Business to provide for greater assistance in the needs of this road. <br />Upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />5 <br />
