t <br />BOOR 18 PIC-E 88 010 <br />HURRICANE AWARENESS AND PREPAREDNESS WEEK <br />2000 <br />A PROCLAMATION <br />WHEREAS, North Carolina is extremely vulnerable to hurricanes; and <br />WHEREAS, during the last decade, North Carolina was struck by 16 hurricanes <br />or tropical storms; and <br />WHEREAS, three hurricanes struck North Carolina during an eight-week period <br />in 1999; and <br />WHEREAS, more than 54 of our citizens died as a result of these three hurricanes <br />and thousands of our citizens were left homeless; and <br />WHEREAS, these hurricanes resulted in the most extensive flooding in the State's <br />recorded history, causing immeasurable human suffering and personal loss; and <br />WHEREAS, the prediction for the year 2000 is for more hurricanes to develop in <br />the Atlantic Basin; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE LEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />does hereby proclaim June 4 - 10, 2000, as "HURRICANE AWARENESS and <br />PREPAREDNESS WEEK" in Lee County, and urges all citizens to prepare for these <br />potentially life threatening storms by learning what they can do to protect themselves, <br />their families and their property when hurricanes and tropical storms threaten our State. <br />ADOPTED THIS 5"" DAY OF JUNE 2000. <br />Herbert A.
