3co 19 Pace 02 <br />J & W Sandblasting Company, Inc. $ 88,000 <br />Municipal Tank Coating & Sandblasting 104,000 <br />Southern Corrosion, Inc. 104,194 <br />Commissioner Adams moved to accept the low bid from J & W Sandblasting Company, <br />Inc. for $88,000. Upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Adams, Hincks, Lemmmond, Matthews, Paschal, and Reives <br />Nay: None <br />Absent: Sauls <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The board considered water tap fee increases. Public Works Director Kenny Cole <br />told the board that for the past thirteen years the charge for a' /4" water service tap has been <br />$650.00. He stated that due to the rising cost of materials and labor, he recommended <br />increasing this cost to $950.00 per tap. This is the same fee that the City of Sanford <br />charges for their taps. After much discussion, Commissioner Adams moved to increase the <br />tap fee from $650.00 to $950.00. Upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Adams, Hincks, Paschal, and Reives <br />Nay: Lemmond and Matthews <br />Absent: Sauls <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted by a four to two vote. <br />Commissioner Reives stated that he only voted for the above recommendation <br />because there was no other alternative. <br />The board considered a service extension to the Phase IT Water Project. Public <br />Works Director Kenny Cole told the board that due to the recent drought conditions, the <br />demand for water had increased. He currently has several petitions from residents <br />inquiring about water lines in the county. He told the board that he had recently met with <br />Jackie McLamb from USDA -Rural Development and was advised that there is loan money <br />available for situations such as this. There is currently $803,000 in un -used bond money <br />from the Phase I and II projects. Mr. Cole stated that approximately 10 -12 miles of <br />additional pipe could be installed at the current unit prices. He recommended to the board <br />that we proceed with an extension to the Phase II Water Project, charge $125.00 tap -on <br />fees, and extend the sign -up period to November 1, 2002. <br />Commissioner Matthews left the meeting during this discussion. <br />After some discussion, Commissioner Adams moved to approve Mr. Cole's <br />recommendation.
