3co 19 Pace 02 J & W Sandblasting Company, Inc. $ 88,000 Municipal Tank Coating & Sandblasting 104,000 Southern Corrosion, Inc. 104,194 Commissioner Adams moved to accept the low bid from J & W Sandblasting Company, Inc. for $88,000. Upon a vote, the results were as follows: Aye: Adams, Hincks, Lemmmond, Matthews, Paschal, and Reives Nay: None Absent: Sauls The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. The board considered water tap fee increases. Public Works Director Kenny Cole told the board that for the past thirteen years the charge for a' /4" water service tap has been $650.00. He stated that due to the rising cost of materials and labor, he recommended increasing this cost to $950.00 per tap. This is the same fee that the City of Sanford charges for their taps. After much discussion, Commissioner Adams moved to increase the tap fee from $650.00 to $950.00. Upon a vote, the results were as follows: Aye: Adams, Hincks, Paschal, and Reives Nay: Lemmond and Matthews Absent: Sauls The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted by a four to two vote. Commissioner Reives stated that he only voted for the above recommendation because there was no other alternative. The board considered a service extension to the Phase IT Water Project. Public Works Director Kenny Cole told the board that due to the recent drought conditions, the demand for water had increased. He currently has several petitions from residents inquiring about water lines in the county. He told the board that he had recently met with Jackie McLamb from USDA -Rural Development and was advised that there is loan money available for situations such as this. There is currently $803,000 in un -used bond money from the Phase I and II projects. Mr. Cole stated that approximately 10 -12 miles of additional pipe could be installed at the current unit prices. He recommended to the board that we proceed with an extension to the Phase II Water Project, charge $125.00 tap -on fees, and extend the sign -up period to November 1, 2002. Commissioner Matthews left the meeting during this discussion. After some discussion, Commissioner Adams moved to approve Mr. Cole's recommendation. Upon a vote, the results were as follows: 2
