He also told the Board that the following bids <br />had been received for equipment for the new facility: <br />Thompson Dental Company $149,000.00 <br />Sullivan-Schein Dental Company $140,701.00 <br />Mr. Hanes recommended that the low bid from Sullivan-Schein Dental Company be <br />approved. After some discussion, Commissioner Adams moved to accept the low bid <br />from Sullivan-Schein Dental Company in the amount of $140,701.00. Upon a vote, the <br />results were as follows: <br />Aye: Adams, Garner, Hincks, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, and Sauls <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board considered a request for a traffic study on a portion of Tramway Road <br />(NC 78). Emergency Management Director Warren Lee, on behalf of the Lee County <br />Safety Committee, asked that the Board request the North Carolina Department of <br />Transportation to conduct a traffic study for Tramway Road (NC 78) between Fire Tower <br />Road and Jefferson Davis Highway. He told the Board that this matter had been brought <br />to the Safety Committee's attention due to the number of vehicles entering Tramway <br />Road from the new McSwain Extension Education & Agriculture Center. The Safety <br />Committee recommended the speed limit be reduced on this portion of the road from 55 <br />miles per hour to 45 miles per hour. After some discussion, County Manager William <br />Cowan was instructed to contact DOT and find out what their plans are, if any, for <br />Tramway Road and also for Center Church Road near Tramway School. No action was <br />taken on the matter. <br />Chairman Hincks presented Finance Director Lisa Minter with a Certificate of <br />Achievement for excellence in financial reporting from the Government Finance Officers <br />Association. Mr. Hincks told the Board that the award is based on the County's <br />comprehensive annual financial report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 1999. <br />The Board discussed travel arrangements for disabled individuals for voting <br />purposes. Commissioner Reives told the Board that he was concerned that some disabled <br />individuals are not voting because they have no means of transportation to the voting <br />polls. Debbie Davidson advised the Board that COLTS vans will be available to <br />transport disabled individuals to the polls if scheduled prior to election day. Mr. Hincks <br />told the Board that he was working closely with the Mayors ADA Committee and would <br />keep the board posted on such matters. No action was taken on the matter. <br />Commissioner Garner moved that the Board write the North Carolina Department <br />of Transportation and request that directional signs be placed on Hwy. 421 North near the <br />intersection of Cool Springs Road for directions to the Sandy Creek Baptist Association. <br />5 <br />
