nuu P~cF y77 016 <br />Resolution in Support of Community College and University Bonds <br />WHEREAS, The North Carolina General Assembly has approved Senate Bill 912, <br />signed by the Governor and enacted as Session Law 2000-2, placing on the ballot a proposal to <br />issue $3.1 billion in general obligation bonds, proceeds from which are to be used to improve <br />facilities within the state's university system ($2.5 billion) and community college system ($600 <br />million); and <br />WHEREAS, North Carolina's community colleges and universities provide our citizens <br />with the opportunities to learn the skills and educational experience that improve the quality of <br />our cultural and economic life; and <br />WHEREAS, the facilities within these universities and community colleges-including <br />laboratories, classrooms and other training facilities- must be improved and modernized if our <br />institutions are to retain the capacity to provide the training and education our students deserve; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, chapter 115 D of the North Carolina General Statutes place on Boards of <br />County Commissioners responsibility for appointing community college trustees and providing <br />funds to create and maintain community college facilities; and <br />WHEREAS, proceeds from the bond issue will provide great assistance to North <br />Carolina counties in improving these community college facilities and in assuring quality <br />facilities for our citizens attending the state's universities. <br />NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that Lee County strongly supports <br />the passage of the community.college and university bonds on the ballot November 7. <br />Adopted this 14th day of August 2000. <br />NORTH CAROLINA, LEE COUNTY sU <br />Resent= or re- stration on the 2) 77 d y <br />ot;Z ~OOO,p1.. <br />DG~I. <br />mcord d Book P Pagel- 6L <br />%Mie W.
