County Manager William Cowan told the Board <br />that the City would like to expand its contract for planning services to include a second <br />permit clerk, who would work along with the county building inspectors' secretarial <br />position to share reception and permitting services duties. They asked that the current <br />contract be modified by changing the first sentence under Sub Paragraph 11. SERVICES. <br />to read as follows: "The City agrees to provide the County comprehensive planning <br />services including zoning administration and enforcement, subdivision administration, <br />watershed administration, long-range planning, transportation planning, airport hazard <br />ordinance administration, flood plain ordinance administration, and reception and <br />permitting services." In additional, the County would need to fund the second position at <br />a cost of $2,400 per month for the balance of this fiscal year. Commissioner Matthews <br />moved to approve the above revision to the contract. Upon a vote, the results were as <br />follows: <br />Aye: Adams, Garner, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, and San15 <br />Nay: None <br />Absent: Hincks <br />The Vice-Chaimian ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board considered the hiring procedure for a new Assistant County Attorney. <br />County Attorney K. R. Hoyle told the Board that Assistant County Attorney Brenda <br />White had submitted her resignation, effective October 31, 2000. He told the Board that <br />three issues needed to be considered: (1) whether to post the position at the new salary <br />after the job classification study is completed, (2) who will hire and supervise the <br />position, and (3) consideration of contracting the work to an outside attorney. After <br />much discussion, Commissioner Reives moved to table the matter until the next meeting <br />on October 2, 2000, and for Mr. Hoyle to have information and figures available for the <br />Board to consider, along with a recommendation on the matter. Mandy Metcalf, Planner for the Sanford-Lee County Community <br />Development Department asked the Board to appoint a steering committee for the Deep <br />River Small Area Plan project. She asked for the Board to consider representatives from <br />the development area, forestry, economic development, education, environment, real <br />estate, and agriculture. After some discussion, Commissioner Reives moved to table the <br />matter until the next meeting on October 2, 2000. Upon a vote, the results were as <br />follows: <br />6 <br />
