After completing business in closed session, Commissioner <br />Adams moved to go out of the closed session. Upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Adams, Garner, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, and Sauls <br />Nay: None <br />Absent: Hincks <br />The Vice-Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The meeting recessed while Commissioners moved to the Gordon Wicker <br />Community Conference Room to hold a joint meeting with members of the Lee County <br />Board of Education. Commissioners present were W. Chad Adams, F. Hubert Garner, <br />Bertha L. Matthews, Nathan E. Paschal, Robert T. Reives, and John 1. Sauls. <br />Commissioner Herbert A. Hincks was absent. <br />Board of Education members present were Joe Brewer, Ruth GUI-tis, Richard <br />Hayes, Ellen Mangum, Rex Scott, and James Womack. Board member Jo Ann Thomas <br />was absent. <br />Vice-Chairman Ed Paschal called the joint meeting to order and turned the <br />meeting over to Board of Education Chairman Rex Scott. Mr. Scott told the <br />Commissioners that the county's only high school has 100 more students this fall than it <br />did last year and there are approximately 2,350 students attending classes in 23 buildings <br />on campus. He also stated that 556,000 will be spent this year to lease mobile units for <br />the high school and two middle schools. <br />After much discussion, Lloyd Jennings, representative of The Citizens for a Better <br />Way asked that the boards appoint an advisory committee to define the problems and <br />come up with recommendations for the two boards to consider. <br />Central Carolina Community College President Dr. Marvin Joyner urged the two <br />boards to work with an advisory committee and for the Commissioners to.come up with <br />financial solutions to the problem. <br />Commissioner Adams moved for the Commissioners to create an advisory <br />committee, subject to approval by the Board of Education.
