=.10. <br />6 1..r 18f;~F •J~Jtiv of yr <br />lei <br />C <br />4e ~PE V aunty ~Oaarbr II %L.Ll tYttiSStII1[EY'S <br />RESOLU'T'ION RECOGNIZING THE 75"' ANNIVERSARY OF THE <br />CHARTERING OF THE KIWANIS CLUB OF SANFORD <br />WHEREAS, the Kiwanis Club of Sanford was chartered on October 7, 1925 with 37 members and is the <br />second oldest civic club in Lee County; and <br />WHEREAS, the Club has benefited from the leadership of many prominent citizens of Lee County as its <br />president, including A.A.P. Seawell, D.B. Teague, J.U. Gunter, W.R. Makepeace, Sr., P.H. St. Clair, J. C. Pittman, <br />Lewis Isenhour, J.E. Brinn, W.E. Homer, Sr., and Albert L. Cox; and <br />WHEREAS, the Kiwanis Club of Sanford has sponsored many worthwhile programs such as a Key Club for <br />high school youth at Lee Senior and Lee Christian High Schools, a Keywanetes Club for high school girls at Lee Senior <br />High School, a Builders Club for 6 through S grade youth at East Lee and West Lee Middle Schools, an Aktion Club <br />for developmentally disabled adults. Terrific Kid programs in several Lee County Elementary Schools, and Farm City <br />Week in co-sponsorship with the Cooperative Extension Service; and <br />WHEREAS, under a lease from Lec County, the Kiwanis Club of Sanford developed Kiwanis Park which <br />was opened in 1955 and in 1997 it added a strolling garden and gazebo to the park; and <br />WHEREAS, the Kiwanis Club of Sanford made significant monetary contributions for improvements and <br />equipment to enhance the track and field program at Lee Senior I-l igh School and for many years, sponsored a track and <br />field meet which brought together all county schools in good natured competition; and <br />WHEREAS. the Kiwanis Club of Sanford helped develop the Coalition to Improve the Quality of Life in <br />Lee County and has assisted other. organizations and groups including the Boy's and Girls Club, HAVEN, the "THANKS <br />Program, and Temple Theatre in their meritorious programs; and <br />WHEREAS, the Kiwanis Club of Sanford has worked to advance the ideals and programs of Kiwanis <br />International by establishing Kiwanis Clubs in Asheboro, Pittsboro, Siler City, and the Lee County Club. <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners of Lee County as follows: <br />Section I. That it congratulates the Kiwanis Club of Sanford on the 75ih anniversary of its chartering and <br />extends the Board's best wishes for its continued success. <br />Section 2.
