Abandon a portion of Harvey Faulk Road <br />• Budget amendment # 10/02/00/06 (copy attached) <br />Upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Adams, Garner, Hincks, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, and Sauls <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman riled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board considered a recommendation from the Planning Board concerning a <br />proposed change to the Lee County Zoning Ordinance as it relates to non-profit <br />organizations. Planner Althea Thompson told the Board that staff had contacted staff at <br />the Institute of Government who had advised them that provisions could not be created <br />just for non-profit organizations. She told the board that current regulations require a <br />minimum of three acres along an easement, with no more than three lots served by that <br />easement. She stated that the Planning Board recommended no change to the Ordinance <br />at this time due to the fact that regulations are currently being studied by the Steering <br />Committee to rewrite the Unified Development Ordinance. Commissioner Matthews <br />asked that the Planning Board study the issue now and not wait until the Unified <br />Development Ordinance Plan is completed. After much discussion, Planning staff were <br />asked, at the next meeting on October 16, 2000, to present pros and cons from the <br />Planning Board concerning changes to the Ordinance, along with examples of problems <br />that could occur. No action was taken on the matter. <br />The Board considered the hiring of a new Assistant County Attorney. County <br />Attorney K. R. Hoyle and Social Services Director Brenda Potts discussed the specific <br />duties that are handled by the Assistant County Attorney and answered questions from <br />the Board. After some discussion, Commissioner SaUIS moved for County Attorney K. <br />R. Hoyle to hire and supervise the new Assistant County Attorney, and to advertise the <br />position at the new salary of Grade 75, with a range of 543,161-$60,233. Upon a vote, <br />the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Adams, Garner, Hincks, Matthews, Paschal, and Sauls <br />Nay: Reives <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted by a six to one vote. <br />The Board considered a proclamation declaring October 1-7, 2000 as National <br />4-H Week. Melinda Bowman, representing the Lee County 4-H Association, read the <br />proclamation and gave the Board a brief update on activities of the club. Commissioner <br />Paschal moved to approve the proclamation, a copy of which is attached to these minutes <br />and by this reference made a part hereof.
