After some discussion, Commissioner <br />Garner moved to approve fiords for the new part-time position as presented. Upon a <br />vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Adams, Garner, Hincks, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, and SaLlls <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board considered a property tax late list penalty fi-om J. T. Davenport & <br />Sons. Tax Administrator Roger Kelley told the Board that his office received the <br />listing from I T. Davenport & Sons on May 3, 2000. The company requested an <br />extension to April 15, 2000, which is the last day allowed by statute. The listing was <br />filed eighteen days late. Mr. Kelley recommended to the Board that the request be <br />denied. Mr. Bob Hughes from J. T. Davenport R Sons asked that the Board forgive the <br />late list penalty of $3,318.67. Following some discussion, Commissioner Adams <br />moved to reduce the penalty from 10% to 5%. Upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Adams <br />Nay: Garner, Hincks, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, and Sauls <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had failed with a six to one vote. Commissioner <br />Paschal moved to accept the recommendation of the Tax Administrator to deny the <br />request. Upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Adams, Garner, Hincks, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, and Sauls <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board considered a resolution to close a portion of West Meadowbrook <br />Street. 911 Project Coordinator Don Kovasekitz told the Board that lie had received a <br />request from Mr. Woods Doster, Manager of Tramway One Associates requesting that <br />the unopened portion of West Meadowbrook Street be closed. He told the Board that <br />according to N.C. General Statute 153A-241, a county may permanently close any <br />public road within the county with the following conditions: <br />• Adoption of a resolution by the Board of Commissioners <br />• Schedule a public hearing and publish once a week for three successive <br />weeks before the hearing <br />• A copy of the resolution must be sent by registered or certified mail to each <br />adjoining property oxvner <br />• A notice of the closing and public hearing must be posted in at least two <br />places along the road or easement <br />3 <br />
