Hunt, Jr. concerning the appointment of Jim Love, Jr. as a District <br />Court Judge in the Eleventh Judicial District <br />Upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Adams, Garner, Hincks, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, and SanIS <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board considered the purchase of twenty-two new vehicles under State <br />Contract for various departments. Commissioner Rcives stated that he could not <br />support these purchases and was concerned that vehicles were not being purchased <br />locally. County Manager William Cowan explained to the Board guidelines that must <br />be followed when purchasing under Stale Contract. After much discussion, <br />Commissioner Matthews moved to approve the purchase of twenty-two vehicles for <br />various departments. Upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Adams, Garner, Hincks, Matthews, Paschal, and Sauls <br />Nay: Reives <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted by a six to one vote. <br />The Board considered the hiring of a new part-time worker in the Soil & Water <br />Conservation Department. Director of Soil and Water Conservation Darryl Harrington <br />asked that the Board appropriate funds for a new part-time position that will be used for <br />environmental education purposes that coincide with the goals of the Lee Soil and <br />Water Conservation District. He told the Board that an Americorp grant from the <br />North Carolina Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service was received for <br />part-time positions to assist local districts.
