6u0X 18 PIGE 325
Community Development Director Ron Satterfield and Planner Mandy Metcalf
discussed the Unified Development Ordinance. They told the two Boards that the final
draft should be ready for adoption in December. Much discussion took place concerning
the number of Ordinances to be drafted and planning boards to be appointed. After
much discussion, the general consensus of both Boards was to have only one Ordinance
and one plauming board.
Mayor Winston Hester discussed the possibility of creating one countywide
police department. He told the Board's that now would be an ideal time to start talking
about this merger since the Sheriff plans on running in only one more election and the
Police Chiefs from Sanford and Broadway are planning to retire in the near future.
After some discussion, it was decided that a committee would be appointed which would
be made up of three County Commissioners, three City Council members, and one
Broadway Commissioner. The committee would study the issue and more individuals
would be appointed if needed.
City Manager Leonard Barefoot discussed airport revenue. He told the Board's
that since the City of Sanford had contributed equally in the development of the new
airport lie felt they should receive some of the revenue. After some discussion, it was
decided that the County Manager, City Manager, County Attorney K. R. Hoyle, and City
Attorney Susan Patterson would meet to study the situation and make a recommendation
to both Board's.
Chairman Hincks made a motion to go into closed session to discuss a land
acquisition. Upon a vote, the results were as follows:
Aye: Adams, Hincks, Lenmmond, Matthews, Paschal, and Sauls
Nay: None
Absent: Reives
The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously.
City Council members also made a motion and went into closed session to
discuss a land acquisition with the County Commissioners.
After discussion had been completed in closed session, Commissioner Adams
moved for the Lee County Board of Commissioners to come out of the closed session.
Upon a vote, the results were as follows:
Aye: Adams, Hincks, Lemmond, Matthews, Paschal, and Sauls
Nay: None
Absent: Reives
The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously.
City Council members adjourned their meeting at this time.
2
