® NUOK 18 PAGE 33~ Gill <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted by a four to three vote and Bob <br />Heats was elected to the Sanford-Lee County Airport Authority. <br />Commissioner Reives stated that lie voted no on each vote because of the process <br />that was used for this appointment. <br />Chairman Hincks recessed the meeting until 7:00 p.m. <br />At 7:00 p.m. the meeting resumed at the Lee County Courthouse for public <br />hearings that had been advertised for this date and time. Commissioners present were <br />W. Chad Adams, Herbert A. Hincks, Jerry M. Lemmond, Bertha L. Matthews, Nathan <br />E. Paschal, Robert T. Reives, and John 1. Sauls. <br />Chairman Hincks opened the first public hearing that involved an economic <br />development project with the Lee County Economic Development Corporation and the <br />City of Sanford. Economic Development Director Bob Heuts told the Board that the <br />purpose of the project would be to lease a new office building that would be constructed, <br />up fitting space in the new building, and the transfer or employment of additional <br />personnel. This project would result in an investment of 51,500,000 to the County. He <br />told the Board that the County's share of the project would be 525,459. <br />No one other than Mr. Heuts spoke in favor of the proposed project. <br />No one spoke in opposition to the project. <br />Chaimran Hincks closed the public hearing. <br />Commissioner Adams moved to approve an economic development project with <br />the Lee County Economic Development Corporation in the amount of 525,459 for a <br />project with The Pantry. Upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Adams, Hincks, Lemmond, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, and SauIS <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />Chairman Hincks opened the second public hearing concerning a lease with The <br />Lee County Arts and Community Center, Inc. County Attorney K. R. Hoyle told the <br />Board that the County intends to lease the remaining vacant property at the Arts Center <br />to The Lee County Arts and Community Center, Inc. for a term of 50-years with the <br />same restrictions as the Arts Center currently has. He told the Board that the County <br />will reserve the right to operate, maintain, and rebuild or build an outdoor basketball <br />court on the site presently located in the northwest quadrant of the land being leased. <br />No one spoke in favor of the request. <br />6 <br />
