i) <br />6,ox 19 mF 349 A. <br />LITTER SWEEP <br />2001 <br />LEE COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA <br />WHEREAS, the North Carolina Department of Transportation's Office of Beautification <br />Programs annually organizes a spring roadside cleanup campaign to ensure clean roadsides <br />throughout our State; and <br />WHEREAS, a spring "Litter Sweep" campaign has been planned for April 16-30, 2001, <br />to clean our roadsides, raise public awareness about the harmful effects of litter on the <br />environment, reduce solid wastes and give every organization, business, government agency and <br />individual the opportunity to be a partner with the Department of Transportation in keeping our <br />roadsides clean and protecting the environment; and <br />WHEREAS, Adopt-A-Highway volunteers, Department of Transportation employees, <br />local governments, community and civic organizations, inmates, community service workers and <br />many environmentally concerned citizens participate in these cleanups; and <br />WHEREAS, the natural beauty of our State and a clean environment are a source of <br />great pride for all North Carolinians, attracting tourists and aiding in recruiting new industries; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the 2001 spring cleanup will acknowledge the 13`h Anniversary of the <br />North Carolina Adopt-A-Highway program and its thousands of volunteers who labor throughout <br />the year to keep our roadsides clean. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, WE, the Lee County Board of Commissioner, do hereby <br />proclaim April 16-30, 2001, as "Litter Sweep" in Lee County, and urge all citizens to participate <br />in this activity to keep our county and State clean and beautiful. <br />Adopted this the 2nd day of April 2001. <br />Herbert A.
