He told the Board that a plan <br />must be submitted to the Office of the Attorney General on or before September 1, 2001. <br />He also told the Board that a public hearing must be held and a resolution adopted that <br />will be sent to the U.S. Justice Department in Washington, D.C. After some discussion, <br />Commissioner Adams moved to hold a public hearing on July 9, 2001, at 7:00 p.m., at <br />the old Lee County Courthouse. Upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Adams, Hincks, Lemmond, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, and Sauls <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board considered a contract between Provisions Academy and the County of <br />Lee Transit System (COLTS). County Manager William Cowan told the Board that <br />Provisions Academy has asked COLTS to provide transportation services for <br />approximately twenty-five students for the upcoming school year. He told the Board <br />that the school would be charged the same mileage rate as other contracting agencies. <br />Commissioner Reives moved to approve a contract between Provisions Academy and <br />COLTS for the upcoming school year. Upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Adams, Hincks, Lemmond, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, and Sauls <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board conducted a public hearing to hear comments concerning an economic <br />development project with the Lee County Economic Development Corporation. <br />Economic Development Director Bob Hems asked that Lee County participate in the cost <br />of an economic development project that consists of participation in the cost of <br />construction of a research and development facility by American Cyanamid Company. <br />The project will include the construction of a new 40,000 square foot building, with an <br />investment of at least $250,000,000.00, and will provide employment for at least 150 <br />people when fully operational. <br />Chairman Hincks opened the public hearing that had been advised for this date <br />and time. <br />No one other than Mr. Heuts spoke in favor of the request. <br />No one spoke in opposition to the request. <br />Chairman Hincks closed the public hearing. <br />Commissioner Paschal moved to approve the appropriation of funds for Lee <br />County to participate in an economic development project with American Cyanamid <br />Company.
