AN ORDINANCE AMENDING <br />THE LEE COUNTY UNIFIED DEVELOPMENT ORDINANCE <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Board of Commissioners of Lee County, North Carolina that the <br />Unified Development Ordinance be, and it hereby is, amended as follows: <br />Section 1. That Article 5 Supplemental Development Regulations be rewritten to create a new <br />Section 5.43 Urban Beekeeping as follows: <br />5.44 URBAN BEEKEEPING <br />5.44.1 BEEHIVE DEFINED <br />The term "beehive" shall include any receptacle or container which is made or <br />prepared for the use as a dwelling by a colony of bees. A colony shall include a group <br />of worker bees, drones, and a queen living together as one social unit. <br />5.44.2 STANDARDS <br />5.44.2.1 Dimensional Standards: The maximum height of any beehive shall be four feet above <br />grade (or floor surface of roof). In the case of roof -mounted beehives, base of hive <br />shall be no closer than ten (10) feet from the edge of the building/vertical wall. <br />
