Upon a vote, the results were as <br />follows: <br />Aye: Adams, Hincks, Lemmond, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, and Sauls <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />Mrs. Thompson told the board that the Planning Board recommended approval of <br />the petition by Johnny M. Howington to rezone from Residential Restricted District to <br />Highway Commercial District, a 1.14 acre lot south of 3610 Hawkins Avenue. <br />Commissioner Sauls moved to approve the recommendation of the Planning Board. <br />Upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Adams, Hincks, Lemmond, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, and Sauls <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />Mrs. Thompson told the board that the Planning Board also recommended <br />approval of the preliminary plat for "Ridge Pointe Subdivision" which will be located off <br />U.S. 1, South. Commissioner Reives moved to approve the recommendation of the <br />Planning Board. Upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Adams, Hincks, Lemmond, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, and Sauls <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The board considered the purchase of three new patrol cars for the Sheriff's <br />Department. Captain Kevin Kirkman asked that the board approve a state contract for the <br />purchase of three patrol cars from Capitol Ford located in Raleigh, North Carolina, at a <br />total cost of 561,865. Commissioner Matthews moved to approve the purchase as <br />requested from Capitol Ford. It was brought to the board's attention that counties no <br />longer have to purchase vehicles using the state contract if they can obtain a lower <br />responsible bid. After further discussion, Commissioner Matthews withdrew her motion. <br />After still further discussion, Commissioner Reives moved to reject the bid from Capitol <br />Ford and solicit bids using the formal bid process. Upon a vote, the results were as <br />follows: <br />Aye: Adams, Hincks, Lemmond, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, and Sands <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />4 <br />
