HUN % i9 FACE 21 <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The board considered the scheduling of a public hearing for economic development <br />incentives for a plant expansion. Economic Development Director Bob Heuts told the <br />board that Electro Mechanical Specialties, located on Hawkins Avenue at the Deep River <br />Road intersection recently sold the company to Meikle Automation and the new name is <br />Meikle EMS Automation. The company currently employs twenty (20) people. He told the <br />board that with the new ownership, plans are underway to expand the business to serve <br />manufacturers in the South and Mexico. EMS builds automation equipment for <br />manufacturing and Meikle will allow them to build larger robotic and automation <br />equipment for a larger market share. He continued to tell the board that plans are underway <br />to hire thirty (30) additional people over the next three (3) years and construct a new <br />15,000 square foot building at the current site plus renovate the existing building. Mr. <br />Heuts told the board that the Executive Committee of the Economic Development <br />Corporation met to discuss this project and recommends that the County use the local <br />economic development incentive policy to assist the business in the development of this <br />project. The amount of local incentives requested by Meikle EMS Automation would be <br />$41,767. After some discussion, Commissioner SaLlls moved to schedule a public hearing <br />on the above matter for the October 21, 2002, meeting at 7:00 o'clock p.m. Upon a vote, <br />the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Adams, Hincks, Lemmond, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, and Sauls <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The board considered a request from Social Services to fill a soon-to-be vacant <br />position in the Child Support Office. Social Services Director Brenda Potts told the board <br />that she will soon have a vacant position in the Child Support Office and she asked <br />permission of the board to fill this position. Mrs. Potts stated the need of filling this <br />position so the department can provide prompt services to the caretakers of children in Lee <br />County. The Child Support Location Clerk is the point of entry for clients that are <br />requesting child support services. This Clerk will be responsible for explaining the <br />program to applicants, collecting the application fee and entering the application in the <br />ACTS system to set the case up for location or enforcement to begin. Mrs. Potts told the <br />board that under new federal time frames an absent parent must be located within 90 days <br />of application to be eligible for assistance and Child Support Orders must be established <br />within 90 days of location. She also stated that this position would assist in bringing <br />revenue into the County. After some discussion, Commissioner Matthews moved to <br />approve the request to fill the Child Support Location Clerk position.
