He told the board that The Division of Community Corrections, <br />formerly the Division of Adult Probation and Parole, is charged with the task of <br />supervising convicted offenders placed on probation by the Courts or released by the <br />Division of Prisons on post-release or parole. The organization was historically founded to <br />supervise those individuals who needed monitoring, while protecting the community. He <br />told the board that currently there are 818 individuals in Lee County that are on probation. <br />The board heard a presentation from Soil and Water Conservation Director Darryl <br />Harrington, and John Caviness and Lynn McCaskill from the Environmental Impact Inc. <br />Resource, Conservation, and Development (RC&D) area that includes Anson, Richmond, <br />Moore, and Montgomery counties. The purpose of the presentation was to encourage Lee <br />County to join the area to obtain grants for various community-oriented projects. They told <br />the board that there would be a 51,250 annual membership fee to join along with a required <br />letter from the Board of Commissioners asking that they join the four-county area. <br />2 <br />
