.18 <br />RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE NORTH CAROLINA BOARD OF <br />TRANSPORTATION TO ABANDON AND CLOSE A PORTION OF BRUCE <br />COGGINS ROAD (SR 1156) FROM THE STATE ROAD MAINTENANCE SYSTEM <br />WHEREAS, the portion of Bruce Coggins Road (SR 1156) running from its intersection <br />with right-of-way of Hickory House Road (SR 1157) to the easterly right-of-way line of the CSX <br />Railroad right-of-way is in the process of being abandoned from the State maintained road system <br />and a new road from Hickory I-louse Road (SR 1157) to Minter School Road (SR 1149) has been <br />constructed to replace it; and <br />WHEREAS, a short portion of Bruce Coggins Road (SR 1156) extending from the <br />easterly right-of-way line of the CSX Railroad right-of-way approximately one-hundred ten (110) <br />feet to its intersection with the right-of-way of Minter School Road (SR 1149) remains; and <br />WHEREAS, Martin Marietta Minerals, Inc. owns the parcel of land fronting this remnant <br />of Bruce Coggins Road (SR 1156) on the south; and <br />WHEREAS, Mrs. Mary Norman owns the parcel of land fronting the remnant of Bruce <br />Coggins Road (SR 1156) on the north; and <br />WHEREAS, Martin Marietta Minerals, Inc. has petitioned the Board of Commissioners <br />to request the North Carolina Board of Transportation to abandon the remnant of Bruce Coggins <br />Road (SR 1156) extending from the easterly line of the CSX Railroad right-of-way to its <br />intersection with the westerly right-of-way line of Minter School Road (SR 1149) from the State <br />maintained road system; and <br />WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners has determined that the public interest, <br />convenience, and safety will be better served if this short stretch of Bruce Coggins Road is <br />abandoned and closed; and <br />WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners is governed in this matter by North Carolina <br />General Statute §136-63; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Lee County Board of Commissioners <br />on petition from Martin Marietta Minerals, Inc. and on its own motion, hereby requests that the <br />North Carolina Board of Transportation abandon from the State maintained road system and close <br />all of the portion of Bruce Coggins Road (SR 1156) from the easterly right-of-way line of the <br />CSX Railroad to the westerly right-of-way line of Minter School Road (SR 1149). <br />Adopted this 19"' day of August 2002. <br />r <br />/lam' <br />2 1 <br />Herbert A.
