8 FA(,4005 <br />LEE COUNTY HEALTH CENTER WEEK <br />PROCLAMATION <br />AUGUST 18 - 24, 2002 <br />WHEREAS, there is a significant number of residents and citizens in Lee County who <br />are currently medically underserved for a number of reasons, the most prominent of <br />which include geographical isolation, financial or language barriers, and insufficient <br />access to affordable health care; and, <br />WHEREAS, Piedmont Health Services, Inc. is a private, non-profit corporation that <br />operates six health centers and a birthing center in four counties including Orange, <br />Alamance, Chatham and Caswell that provides high quality comprehensive primary <br />health care to medically underserved people; and, <br />WHEREAS, Piedmont Health Services has made great strides in this multi County <br />region by maintaining a high standard of accountability, demonstrating cost effectiveness, <br />empowering our community to develop programs to meet its specific needs, and <br />providing health care services in accessible low-cost environments; and, <br />WHEREAS, Piedmont Health Services has also made a significant difference in this <br />county health care system by improving access to quality health care provided by trained <br />professionals in areas that had been underserved, promoting individual responsibility and <br />health awareness in the community, and offering primary preventive health care of the <br />highest quality to reduce preventable deaths, costly disabilities, and communicable <br />diseases; and, <br />WHEREAS, Community Health Centers like those operated by Piedmont Health <br />Services promote 100% access and zero health disparities to help achieve primary health <br />care for all people. <br />NOW, IrHEIZEFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Lee County Board of <br />Commissioners do hereby proclaim the week of August 18 - 24, 2002, as "Health Center <br />IF'eek" in Lee County and urge our citizens to recognize the important contributions of <br />the health centers operated by Piedmont Health Services, Inc. to the improvement of the <br />general quality of life of the residents and citizens of Lee County. <br />7 <br />Adopted this the 19't' day of August 2002. <br />A TTEST: Herbert A.
