i)uo; ~8 F~cF 979 <br />Proclamation <br />July is Parks and Recreation Month <br />Whereas, parks, greenways, and open space provide a welcome respite from our fast- <br />paced, high-tech lifestyles while protecting and preserving our natural environment and, <br />Whereas, parks, nature trails, open spaces, community and cultural centers, historic sites <br />and playgrounds make a community an attractive and desirable place to live, work, play, <br />and visit, and contribute to our economic vitality, and <br />Whereas, these facilities contribute to our efforts to improve the quality of life in North <br />Carolina and in our community by preserving open space and promoting an appreciation <br />of our state's natural resources, and <br />Whereas, parks, recreation activities and leisure experiences provide opportunities for <br />young people to live, grow, and develop into contributing members of society, and <br />Whereas, parks and recreation create lifelines and opportunities to continue life <br />experiences for older members of our community, and <br />Whereas, parks and recreation agencies provide outlets for physical activities, <br />socialization, and stress-reducing experiences, and contribute to a sense of community, <br />and <br />Whereas, parks and recreation agencies touch the fives of individuals, families, groups, <br />and the entire community with positive impacts upon the social, economic, health and <br />environmental quality of our community, and <br />Whereas, the Lee County Parks and Recreation Department, Lee County Health <br />Department, Boys & Girls Club of Sanford/Lee County, Lee County 4H Clubs, and Lee <br />County YMCA have planned numerous activities for July 27`" at U. T. Sloan Park to <br />celebrate July as Parks & Recreation Month and to observe National Kids Day, <br />Now, Therefore Be It Resolved, that the Lee County Board of Commissioners proclaim <br />July as Parks and Recreation Month and encourage all citizens to celebrate by <br />participating in their choice of pleasurable activities to find refreshment from their <br />leisure. <br />r <br />ATTEST: Herbert A.
