Commissioners present were W. Chad Adams, Herbert A. Hincks,
Jerry M. Lemmond, Bertha L. Matthews, Nathan E. Paschal, Robert T. Reives, and John 1.
Sauls.
Chairman Hincks called the meeting to order and the following business was
transacted.
The board discussed upgrading the Deputy Director of Elections position. Human
Resource Director Patsy Rogers told the board that she had reviewed the request and
compared the Description of Work to the Position Questionnaire that was prepared in April
2000, and noted no significant changes in the description of the work. She further told the
board that she had gathered salary range and classification information from surrounding
counties and discussed the matter with Hal Scott from The Scott Group, who completed our
last countywide classification study. She told the board that both she and Mr. Scott agree
that the position is classified correctly at Grade 59. After much discussion, Mrs. Rogers
was asked to compare the Lee County Deputy Director of Elections job description with
Harnett, Chatham, Wilson, Moore, and Franklin counties to see if the duties are similar
since some counties pay their employees more money. Mrs. Rogers was asked to report
back to the board on this matter as soon as possible. No action was taken on the matter.
The board discussed the new Industrial Park expansion. Commissioner Reives
asked that the board consider freezing finds for this proposed expansion and holding the
Economic Development budget to a minimum. County Manager William Cowan told the
board that the project will go out for bid in July or August and the new road to be
constructed through the project has already been designed. Much discussion followed but
no action was taken on the matter.
The board considered a $4,000 request for the Beaver Management Program.
Following some discussion, the consensus of the board was to add $4,000 to the
Cooperative Extension budget for the Beaver Management Program.
