GO4 <br />G^0 OX IS PwCE 8,19 <br />Aye: Adams, Hincks, Lemmond, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, and Sauls <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />Commissioner Reives discussed with the board a recent article and picture <br />pertaining to Lee County that appeared in the "North Carolina" magazine. Mr. Reives <br />stated that he had concerns over a picture and comment concerning "diversity" in Lee <br />County. Chairman Hincks told the board that he would meet with Mr. Hems and discuss <br />the matter. No action was taken on the matter. <br />Commissioner Reives asked that the School Site Selection Committee meet again to <br />discuss various sites for a new high school/middle school. After some discussion, County <br />Manager William Cowan was instructed to contact Interim School Superintendent Allen <br />Johnson and schedule another meeting. <br />Commissioner Matthews asked that the board approve a resolution of support to <br />Atlantic & Western Railway Company concerning a $200,000 grant to build a facility in <br />Lee County. After some discussion, Commissioner Matthews moved to approve a <br />resolution of support to Atlantic & Western Railway Company, a copy of which is attached <br />to these minutes and by this reference made a part hereof. Upon a vote, the results were as <br />follows: <br />Aye: Adams, Hincks, Lemmond, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, and Sauls <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />County Manager William Cowan and Finance Director Lisa Minter discussed with <br />the board additional projected operating shortfalls for the upcoming year that total <br />$890,367. The board was told at their March retreat that the projected shortfall would be <br />$376,195. They stated that the shortfall includes a $500,000 reduction in projected tax <br />revenues, $110,000 reduction in sales tax revenues, and $31,172 reduction in State Public <br />School Fund money. No action was taken on the matter. <br />Chairman Hincks recessed the meeting until 7:00 p.m. <br />At 7:00 p.m. Chairman Hincks called the meeting to order in Courtroom #4 at the <br />old Lee County Courthouse, 1408 S. Horner Blvd., Sanford, North Carolina. All <br />Commissioners were present. <br />Chairman Hincks opened the public hearing as advertised for this date and time to <br />hear comments from the public concerning the Capital Improvements Plan (CIP) for <br />2002/03-2006/07. <br />No one present spoke on behalf of the Capital Improvements Plan. <br />4 <br />
