Prohibited Signs and Devices nox I8 P„CF 857 <br />All signs not expressly permitted under this Ordinance or exempt from regulations hereunder in <br />accordance with previous sections are prohibited in all zoning districts. Such signs shall include, <br />but are not limited to: <br />(a) Banners, (except as specifically pennitted in Section 8. Temporary Banners); <br />(b) Beacons; <br />(c) Flashing signs; <br />(d) Pennants; <br />(e) Portable signs; <br />(f) Roof signs; and <br />(g) Windblown devices <br />7.1 Definitions <br />A sign is any display of any letters, words, numbers, figures, devices, emblems, pictures or any <br />parts or combinations thereof, by any means whereby the same are made visible for the purpose <br />of making anything known, whether such display be made on, attached to or as a part of a <br />structure, surface or any other thing, including but not limited to the ground, a rock, tree or other <br />natural object. A sign includes all poles, frames and other supports upon which such display are <br />made. <br />The above prohibited signs and devices are defined below: <br />Banner: A lightweight fabric or similar material which is intended to be hung either with or <br />without a frame, or mounted to allow movement caused by the atmosphere. <br />Beacon: Any light with one or more beams directed into the atmosphere or directed at one or <br />more points not on the same site as the light source; also, any light with one or more beams that <br />rotate or move. <br />Flashing Sign: A sign, the illumination of which is not constant in intensity when in use, and <br />which exhibits sudden or marked changes in lighting effects. LED displays on restaurant menu <br />boards are not considered flashing signs. <br />Pennant: Any lightweight plastic, fabric or other material, whether or not containing a message <br />of any kind, which is suspended from a rope, wire, string or pole, usually in series, and which is <br />designed to move in the wind. <br />Portable Sign: Any sign not permanently attached to the ground or other permanent structure or <br />a sign designed to be transported, including, but not limited to, signs designed to be transported <br />by means of wheels; signs made as A-frames or T-frames; balloons used as signs; umbrellas used <br />for commercial messages. <br />Roof Sign: A sign that is placed above or supported on the top of a building or accessory <br />structure. <br />2 of 4 <br />1 <br />
