tai, ;f 18 rasp 78 <br />LITTER SWEEP <br />2002 <br />LEE COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA <br />WHEREAS, the North Carolina Department of Transportation's Office of <br />Beautification Programs annually organizes a spring roadside cleanup campaign to ensure <br />clean roadsides throughout our State; and, <br />WHEREAS, a spring "Litter Sweep" campaign has been planned for April 15- <br />28, 2002, to clean our roadsides, raise public awareness about the harmful effects of litter <br />on the environment, reduce solid wastes and give every organization, business, <br />government agency, and individual the opportunity to be a partner with the Department <br />of Transportation in keeping our roadsides clean and protecting the environment; and, <br />WHEREAS, Adopt-A-Highway volunteers, Department of Transportation <br />employees, local governments, community and civic organizations, inmates, community <br />service workers and many environmentally concerned citizens participate in these <br />cleanups; and, <br />WHEREAS, the natural beauty of our State and a clean environment are a source <br />of great pride for all North Carolinians, attracting tourists and aiding in recruiting new <br />industries; and, <br />WHEREAS, the 2002 spring cleanup will acknowledge its 13`h annual Spring <br />North Carolina Adopt-A-Highway program and its thousands of volunteers who labor <br />throughout the year to keep our roadsides clean. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, WE, the Lee County Board of Commissioners, do <br />hereby proclaim April 15-28, 2002, as "Litter Sweep" in Lee County, and urge all <br />citizens to participate in this activity to keep our county and State clean and beautiful. <br />Adopted this the 18`h day of March 2002. <br />A.
