Health Director Mike Hanes told the Board that seven <br />(7) interviews had been conducted for the Physician Extender II position, with only two <br />(2) interested applicants remaining. He told the Board that in order to be competitive and <br />fill the position he was asking that lie be allowed to offer the position at Grade 77, Step <br />14 ($67,867). He further told the Board that Physician Extender II individuals are <br />educated, trained, and authorized to perform most of the services of a family practice <br />MD. He also stated that the individual selected for the position would be an asset in <br />providing not only medical services in the regular clinics but would also be cross-trained <br />for jail health and primary care duties. After some discussion, Commissioner Stevens <br />moved to approve the hiring range for the Physician Extender II position at Grade 77, <br />Step 14 contingent upon approval of the Board of Health at their next meeting. Public Works Director Kenny Cole told the Board that he had <br />been working with Hydrostructures, PA concerning the gravity sewer and force main for <br />the new high school and emergency training center. He outlined two following options <br />for the Board to consider: <br />1. Construct a lift station and force main for the high school and one for <br />the community college. Both stations would be owned and <br />maintained by Lee County; or <br />2. Construct a lift station that would serve a 1,200 ac. basin to serve both <br />projects. The lift station would cost an additional $155,000. <br />County Manager William Cowan told the Board that this project would open a stretch of <br />N.C. 78 with access to sewer service and lines that reach 450 existing residential lots. He <br />father stated that the potential for development of that area should be specified and <br />controlled with preference to further residential construction, commercial property <br />development, or a combination of the two. After some discussion, Commissioner Adams <br />moved to approve the option to construct a lift station that would serve a 1,200 ac. basin <br />that would serve both the high school and emergency training center projects at a cost of <br />$155,000.
