0 Uu J9 PAGE 5 69 <br />Aye: Adams, Hincks, Lemmond, Matthews, Reives, and Stevens <br />Nay: None <br />Absent: Paschal <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board considered matters pertaining to the Tax Office. Interim Tax <br />Administrator Nathan Crissman recommended that the Board penalize Arden Companies <br />for their 2003 late listing in the amount to $968.59. He told the Board that according to <br />N.C. General Statute 105-311, "abstracts submitted by mail are considered filed as of the <br />date shown on the postmark affixed by the United States Postal Service." The postmark <br />on the abstract was February 1, 2003, which missed the deadline by one day; therefore, a <br />penalty was added as required by law. After some discussion, Commissioner Matthews <br />moved to deny Mr. Crissman's recommendation to penalize Arden Companies $968.59. <br />Upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Hincks, Lemmond, Matthews, and Reives <br />Nay: Adams and Stevens <br />Absent: Paschal <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted by a four to two vote. <br />The Board considered the write off of 1992 taxes. Interim Tax Administrator <br />Nathan Crissman answered questions from Board members concerning the 1992 taxes. <br />After some discussion, Commissioner Matthews moved to approve the write off of 1992 <br />taxes, copies of which are attached to these minutes and by this reference made a part <br />hereof. Upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Adams, Hincks, Lemmond, Matthews, Reives, and Stevens <br />Nay: None <br />Absent: Paschal <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board considered a tax matter concerning The Sanford Soup Kitchen, Inc. <br />(former Bread Basket.) County Attorney K. R. Hoyle asked that the Board approve an <br />application for exemption from property taxes by The Sanford Soup Kitchen, Inc. (former <br />Bread Basket) pursuant to North Carolina General Statute §105-282.1. He stated that if <br />the Board approved the application, he would notify the City of Sanford so City Council <br />members can also take action on the matter. After some discussion, Commissioner <br />Reives moved to approve the application for exemption by The Sanford Soup Kitchen, <br />Inc. Upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Adams, Hincks, Lemmond, Matthews, Reives, and Stevens <br />Nay: None <br />Absent: Paschal <br />4 <br />
