Upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Adams, Hincks, Lemmond, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, and Stevens <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman riled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board considered a tax matter concerning an application for a Homestead <br />Exemption application. Tax Administrator Roger Kelley told the Board that it had <br />recently been brought to his attention that Nis. Omelia Evans of 143 Dorsett Road, <br />Sanford, qualified for the Elderly Exemption in the month of September when she turned <br />SO years old, but was not aware that she qualified for the exemption. Mr. Kelley told the <br />Board that based on NC General Stature 105-282.1(a]); he could only accept Ms. Evans <br />application with the approval of the Board. Mr. Kelley recommended that the Board <br />approve an application for exclusion under G. S. 105-277.1 for tax relief for elderly and <br />permanently disabled persons for Ms. Omelia Evans. Upon a vote, the results were as <br />follows: <br />Aye: Adams, Hincks, Lenumond, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, and Stevens <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board considered an amendment to the contract with Benchmark, LLC for <br />the CDBG project. County Attorney K. R. Hoyle told the Board that he had been <br />infonned that Benchmark, LLC, a North Carolina corporation located in Kannapolis, <br />North Carolina, has ceased to do business and thereby have violated the terms of its <br />contract with Lee County to provide services to administer a CDBG scattered site project. <br />Mr. Hoyle stated that the County has the option to claim the titles to all finished or <br />unfinished documents, data, studies, surveys, drawings, maps, models, photographs, and <br />reports reported by Benchmark, LLC under the contract and that he as County Attorney <br />and the Department of Community Development are instructed to request and obtain such <br />material as the County's property. He further stated that the Community Development <br />Office should be given authorization to procure another organization to complete the <br />project. After some discussion, Commissioner Adams moved that the County tenminate <br />the contract with Benchmark, LLC immediately by giving written notice of such <br />termination and authorize the Community Development Office to procure another <br />organization to complete the project.
