Stevens OFFICE OF THE COUNTY MANAGER August 18, 2003 Lee County Board of Commissioners PO Box 1968 Sanford, NC 27331-1968 Dear Commissioners: This letter is to inform the Board of my retirement from Lee County and the North Carolina Local Retirement System. Earlier in the year, I stated that it was my intention to retire at the end of the calendar year 2003. After careful consideration taken into account the needs of my family, the staff of Lee County, and the current demands on this Board, I have decided to delay my retirement until the end of the 2003-2004 fiscal year. This will provide time for the Board to begin their search for a new County Manager at the beginning of the New Year. It will also allow me time to assist the County staff with the financing process of the new high school project and assist the school's architect with securing State and Federal grant funds for the recreation component of the project which were rejected last year. Even though June 30, 2004, will be my last day on the job, I would like to request that the Board allow me to use my then accumulated vacation leave as credits toward retirement which according to Patsy Roger's current estimates will make my effective retirement date September 1, 2004. In closing let me say that I've truly enjoyed my fifteen years with Lee County. I've worked with eighteen different Commissioners while serving as County Manager and have enjoyed my association with each and every member. I feel the County has made great progress under my managerial leadership and the County has earned the reputation as a stable and well-managed unit of government by the North Carolina Local Government Commission and the National Rating Agencies.
