b5% 1.9 Pi F 484
RECOMMENDED "WATER CONSERVATION MEASURES" FOR USERS OF
THE CITY OF SANFORD WATER SYSTEM JULY 30, 2003
CITY OF SANFORD RECOMMENDED CUSTOMER
"WATER CONSERVATION MEASURES"
Users of the City of Sanford water distribution system are asked to implement the
following conservation measures on an ongoing basis as well as during water shortages:
INDOOR RESIDENTIAL USE:
Conservation for Voluntary and Mandatory Conservation Phases
• Use dishwashers only when they are full. Washing dishes by hand, without the tap
running, saves approximately 25 gallons of water.
• Don't use the garbage disposal. Place food scraps in the trash.
• Adjust the water level on clothes washing machines, if possible. If not, wash full
loads only.
• Use non-phosphate detergent and save laundry water for lawns and plants.
• Turn off faucets while brushing teeth, etc. This saves about 5 gallons of water per
day.
• Reduce water used per [lush by installing ultra low-flow toilets. You may be eligible
to receive a financial incentive. Contact the City of Sanford Water Billing
Department.
• Reduce the number of toilet flushes per day. Each flush uses about 5 gallons (2-3 if
you have an ultra low flow toilet)
• Do not use the toilet as a trashcan.
• Use sink and tub stoppers to avoid wasting water.
• Take shorter showers and shallow baths. This saves about 25 gallons of water.
• Keep chilled water in the refrigerator for drinking-
Locale and repair leaks in faucets and water-using appliances. Faucets can usually be
fixed cheaply and quickly by replacing washers.
• Learn to read your Nvater meter so you can judge how much water you use and to see
what a difference conservation makes.
7/15/03 Page 1 of 5
