Under Old Business, the Board considered fees associated with animal control operations. At the last meeting, Health Director Mike Hanes presented a draft of fees the Health Board had approved for the new Animal Control Shelter that will be opening in September 2003. Mr. I-lanes was instructed by the Board to survey surrounding counties to compare charges on animal control fees and to run an ad in The Sanford Herald letting the public know about the new fees. Mr. Hanes told the Board that he had contacted Wake, Moore, Harnett, Chatham, and Cumberland counties and published a notice in the local paper on July 16"i. He told the Board that the only change his Health Board had requested fi-om the last meeting was to now accept donations rather than charge for euthanasia and disposal of animals. After some discussion, Commissioner Reives moved to approve the following fees associated with animal control operations: Adoption fee for cats - 545.00 • Adoption fee for dogs - 560.00 • Adoption fees include 7-Nvay shot and de-worming - customer will have 30 days to provide proof to shelter staff of rabies shots.
