GCDX 19 PLACE 387 Lee County School Superintendent Dr. Barry Aycock asked that the board reconsider their appropriations for more funding for K-12 education. He told the board that the school district requested S9.46 million for funds to operate and supply the schools for the 2003-04 school year of which the Comity Manager recommended $9.05 million. lie also told the board that the schools requested 5597,457 for capital outlay recurring cost funds and the County Manager recommended $397,800. Dr. Aycock told the board that both sums were insufficient to do the job the schools must do. Another concern Dr. Aycock expressed was the lack of sufficient funding by the state for public education because state funds are not keeping up with student growth, and in many cases, additional cuts may have to be made. Mr. James Mills of 325 N. Franklin Drive and Mrs. Ruth Gurtis of 114 Hawkins Avenue asked that the county try and keep the tax rate as low as possible for senior citizens and those on Fixed incomes. Chairman Hincks closed the public hearing. The board considered appointments to various Boards and Commissions.
