a o; 9 PaGE ,8D
current Lee County Ordinance states that only one accessory building can be located on a
lot and that mobile homes are not considered accessory buildings. Mr. Buie and Mrs.
Thompson told the board that Mr. and Mrs. Austin could appeal the matter to the Lee
County Board of Adjustments once they have filed an application and submitted the
required $125.00 filing fee. No action was taken on the matter.
The board considered insurance matters for the upcoming year. Safety and
Training Officer Bob Brown recommended to the board that Lee County renew the
Worker's Compensation and Property and Liability insurance with the North Carolina
Association of County Commissioners. He told the board that the Worker's
Compensation portion would be $342,273, an increase of 5172,600 from the current year,
and the Property and Liability portion would be $309,181, an increase of $39,536 from
the current year. He also recommended that the county contract with Traveler's Property
and Casualty Group for Worker's Compensation for the volunteer firemen at a cost of
$18,152, and increase of $371.00. After some discussion, Commissioner Paschal moved
to approve a resolution to adopt the Lnterlocal Agreement to join the North Carolina
Counties Liability and Property Joint Risk Management Agency for Worker's
Compensation and Property and Liability Insurance, a copy of which is attached to these
minutes and by this reference made a part hereof, and to renew the policy with Traveler's
Property and Casualty Group for volunteer firemen's worker's compensation. Upon a
vote, the results were as follows:
Aye: Adams, Hincks, Lemmond, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, and Stevens
Nay: None
The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously.
The board considered fees for animal control. Health Director Mike Hanes told
the board that the Board of Health recommended the following fees for animal control
operations to be effective July 1, 2003:
• Adoption fee for cats - $45.00
• Adoption fee for dogs - 560.00
• Reclaim fee (returning lost animal) - $20.00 plus boarding fee
• Boarding fee - $10.00/day
Euthanasia and disposal fee - 535.00
After much discussion, Chairman Hincks moved to table the matter until Commissioner
Amy Stevens and Mr. Hanes could do some newspaper and radio advertisements
concerning the proposed new fees and additional information from surrounding counties
and the San-Lee Humane Society concerning animal fees could be obtained. Mr. Hanes
is also to report to the board with the requested information at the July meeting. Upon a
vote, the results were as follows:
Aye: Adams, Hincks, Lemmond, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, and Stevens
Nay: None
3
