After further discussion, <br />Commissioner Adams moved to approve the proposal from the Sanford and Lee County <br />Fire Departments that would save the county approximately $300,000 over four years. <br />'Upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Adams, Hincks, Matthews, Reives and Stevens <br />Nay: Lemmond <br />Absent: Paschal <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted by a five to one vote. <br />The board considered an agreement with the N.C. Administrative Office of the <br />Courts concerning warrant acquisitions. Domestic Violence Investigator James Estes <br />told the board that he wished to enter into an agreement that would allow the Sheriff's <br />Office to go online with the Magistrate's Computerized Warrant System to save time in <br />obtaining warrant acquisitions. He told the board that presently all fees for connectivity <br />and set-up will be waived with no cost to the Sheriffs Office or the County. Magistrate <br />Sandra Jordan also spoke in favor of the request. After some discussion, Commissioner <br />Reives moved to approve an agreement with the N.C. Administrative Office of the <br />Courts, a copy of which is attached to the minutes and by this reference made a part <br />hereof. Upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Adams, Hincks, Lemmond, Matthews, Reives and Stevens <br />Nay: None <br />Absent: Paschal <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The board considered a proposal for the Waste Management Transfer Station. <br />Public Works Director Kenny Cole told the board that the Disposal Service Agreement <br />with Waste Management will expire at midnight on June 30, 2003. Lee County entered <br />into this Agreement on July 1, 1998, with a tipping fee of $32.20. Since that time the <br />tipping fee has risen annually according to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) to its current <br />rate of $35.16. The tipping fee under the proposed agreement extension would be <br />according to one of three options. After some discussion, Commissioner Reives moved <br />to approve option #1 that calls for renewal of the Agreement with no increase to the <br />current tipping fee of $35.16 per ton for all customers. Beginning the second year the <br />tipping fee would be adjusted according to the CPI. Based on the current CPI of 1.6% <br />the solid waste budget could benefit from an avoidance cost of approximately $5,000.00 <br />during the first year of the extended Agreement.
